Give Political Prisoner status to all those who are incarcerated for their political views! September 13 is a day of great significance, particularly for those who are condemned within the four walls of the prison for their political beliefs; for their strong convictions to dream and dare for a world that is free from all forms of exploitation, oppression, mistreatment and discrimination. It is a day to remember and reassure oneself about the need to uncompromisingly fight for a cause that is for the greater common good. Exactly eighty years ago, on the same day, Jatin Das the great revolutionary and freedom fighter braved the British imperialist rulers in a historic 63-day hunger strike at the Lahore Central Jail for prison rights including the demand to be recognized as a Political Prisoner. |

By Chalmers Johnson http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/KH04Ak01.html However ambitious United States President Barack Obama's domestic plans, one unacknowledged issue has the potential to destroy any reform efforts he might launch. Think of it as the 800-pound gorilla in the American living room: our longstanding reliance on imperialism and militarism in our relations with other countries and the vast, potentially ruinous global empire of bases that goes with it. The failure to begin to deal with our bloated military establishment and the profligate use of it in missions for which it is hopelessly inappropriate will, sooner rather than later, condemn the United States to a devastating trio of consequences: imperial overstretch, perpetual war and insolvency, leading to a likely collapse similar to that of the former Soviet Union. |
